Anna Maria Island summer vacation rentals
Summer the way locals do it
Summer on Anna Maria Island feels like the island the locals know. The Gulf is bathwater warm, the beaches have room to spread out, and the only traffic jam is the line for ice cream after dinner.
Here’s why summer here beats any beach town on the Gulf, and why families keep coming back to our vacation rentals near Anna Maria Island.

A real family beach town
Anna Maria Island has no high-rise condo towers and no giant resort hotels. It’s beach cottages, family homes and small, low-rise inns, with palm trees taller than most of the buildings.
That shapes who’s here. The people next to you on the beach are families on vacation, not a party crowd. If you’re looking for the Redneck Riviera, this isn’t it. You won’t find lifted trucks cruising the beach road with the bass rattling your windows, or a strip of bars spilling onto the sidewalk at 2 a.m. Kids ride bikes to get ice cream, everyone stops to watch the sunset, and unless you’re out for a late night on Bridge Street, the island is pretty much asleep by 10 p.m.

And this isn’t the beach your whole hometown drives to every summer. You came for a tropical getaway, not to run into your neighbors at the pier.
Big Bradenton vacation rentals built for big families
And when the beach day is done, you come home to a house built for your whole crew. Summer trips are when the whole family comes: grandparents, cousins, and everyone’s kids. Instead of splitting up across hotel rooms or condos, stay together in one private vacation rental with room for everyone to gather and room to get away.

Bustling, but never packed
Anna Maria Island’s busy season is winter and spring, when snowbirds and spring breakers fill the island. In summer, the island is still bustling. The shops, restaurants and beaches are open and full of families, but you’re not fighting for a parking spot or sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic to reach the sand.
That’s the opposite of the Panhandle, where summer is peak season and the beach roads in towns like Destin can back up for miles. Here, you can decide at 4 o’clock to catch the sunset at the beach and actually make it.
- Open stretches of sand, even on a Saturday
- Easy parking at the public beaches
- Short waits at the island’s favorite restaurants
- The free island trolley runs the length of the island from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., every 20 minutes for most of the day
One of the safest beach towns in Florida
Anna Maria Island is a place where families relax. In 2024, Holmes Beach, the island’s largest city, reported a violent crime rate about 90% below the national average, according to FBI data.
The beaches are safe too. Manatee County lifeguards watch Coquina Beach, Cortez Beach and Manatee Public Beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer usually brings the calmest, clearest water of the year, which is perfect for little swimmers.
Summer on the water
In June, July and August, the Gulf of Mexico along this coast averages 84 to 86°F.
- Beach mornings, pool afternoons. Hit the sand early, then head back to your private pool and hot tub when the afternoon heats up.
- Sea turtle season. Loggerhead and green sea turtles nest on Anna Maria Island from May 1 through October 31. Early risers often spot marked nests on the beach, and late summer is hatching time.
- Gulf sunsets every night. The island faces west, so the sun sets right over the water. Bring a chair to the beach after dinner and watch it go down.
- Dolphins and manatees. Calm summer water is the best time for a dolphin cruise or a paddle through the mangroves.

Easy to get here, easy to explore
Bradenton is a straight drive from most of the eastern US, and three airports are close by. Approximate drive times from our homes:
| Where | Drive time |
|---|---|
| Sarasota-Bradenton Airport (SRQ) | About 20 minutes |
| St. Pete-Clearwater Airport (PIE) | About 50 to 55 minutes |
| Tampa International Airport (TPA) | About 50 to 55 minutes |
| Busch Gardens, the Florida Aquarium and ZooTampa | About an hour |
| Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld | About 2 hours |
That makes it easy to split a summer trip: a few days at the parks, then a week of beach and pool to recover. For events and local tips, see the official Bradenton Gulf Islands visitor guide.
